Kansas robbery suspect released from hospital, taken to jail

SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a shooting incident and have made an arrest. 

Just after 7:30p.m. Monday, police were sent to the area of SW 8th and SW Fillmore in Topeka after several reports of multiple gunshots, according to spokesperson Gretchen Koenen.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man with a non-life threatening injury initially believed to a gunshot wound. EMS transported the man to a local hospital for treatment. 

Investigators  located a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire at SW 6th and SW Fillmore. The vehicle also contained a significant amount of illegal drugs and the injured party refused to cooperate with the police investigation.

This incident centered on an attempted sale of illegal drugs that resulted in a robbery attempt which culminated in the listed related shooting incident.

The injured man identified as 19-year-old Amari L. Wilkerson of Topeka, was released from a local hospital, arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on requested criminal charges of Obstruction of Justice and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute.
