SHAWNEE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating two suspects caught driving a stolen car.

Just after 8a.m. Friday, a Shawnee County Sheriff's deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on a Chevy Malibu for failing to signal a lane change in the 200 Block of NW Jay Street, according to Deputy Shayna Anderson.

The vehicle stopped in a driveway and the passenger later identified as Justin R. Shumway, 37, Topeka, fled the vehicle on foot.  While running, deputies observed Shumway throwing a 9mm handgun that was later recovered, according to Anderson.

Deputies arrested him on NW Studer while he was attempted to escape in another vehicle.
