SEDGWICK COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating the fatal shooting at a Wichita hotel and have identified the victims.

Just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday, police and EMS responded to report of a shooting at the Water Walk Hotel in the 700 Block of South Main Street, according to Captain Brett Allred

When they arrived, police found George Kirksey, 27, and Alicia Roman, 22, both of Wichita with multiple gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have learned that the victims were inside the hotel room when a suspect entered the room, fired multiple shots and fled on foot, according to Allred.  Police don't know if the suspect was let into the room or if the victims left the door unlocked.

Witnesses described the suspect as a black male, approximately 5-foot-10 inches tall, with a medium build and  wearing dark clothing.

Police don't believe this is a random incident.  The victims and the suspect are acquaintances, according to Allred and the victims were staying at the hotel.

There were 35 criminal homicides in Wichita in 2019.
