SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a December 20 road rage fight that sent one man to the hospital in critical condition.  After a week in the hospital, the victim identified as Charles McPeek, 55,  has died, according to Topeka Police Lt. Manuel Munoz.

Just after 7:15p.m. December 20, officers responded to the west side of the Sardou Bridge in Topeka on a report of an aggravated battery that had just occurred between the drivers of two vehicles, according to Lt. John Trimble.

A dark colored Chevy Traverse, or similar SUV, was tailgating the victim’s SUV and just after crossing the bridge they pulled over at about Morse and Central in North Topeka. The drivers got out of their vehicles to confront each other.

The driver of the tailgating SUV punched McPeek, the driver of the other SUV and left. McPeek was left unconscious and was transported to a local hospital for critical injuries.

Police asked that if anyone was in the area at that time and saw anything to contact them. On December 23, police reported they had located all of those involved in this incident. They have not reported an arrest or additional details including all the names of those involved.
