Family dog shot, Kansas man jailed after Christmas Day standoff

SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement authorities are investigating a Kansas man on multiple charges after a brief standoff on Christmas Day.

Just after 7:30a.m., police were dispatched to 5924 SW 35th ST. on a report of a violent domestic disturbance, according to Lt. Manuel Munoz.

Officers were able to make contact with a woman who indicated the she was a victim of domestic violence and that the suspect was inside armed with a handgun making threats. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect who refused to come out and barricaded himself inside the residence.

Officers could see that the suspect was armed with a handgun and quickly set up a perimeter around the home. Response team and negotiators were called to the scene to assist. Negotiators were able to make contact with the suspect through a public address system and had him exit out the front door. The suspect came out, but continued to disobey any commands given by the officers. During that time, one of the dogs came out of the home and ran aggressively towards the officers who were attempting to take the suspect into custody.

One of the officers discharged his weapon, fatally injuring the dog, according to Munoz.

Officers took Michael Allen Ogle, 39, into custody. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and then transported to Shawnee County Department of Corrections  on requested charges of Aggravated Battery, Battery, Felony Interference with Law Enforcement and Aggravated Endangerment of a Child.
