2 officers among in 3 injured in crash into marked KCPD vehicles

KANSAS CITY —As many as three people including two KCPD officers were injured in a multi-vehicle crash involving two marked Kansas City Police Department vehicles that occurred just before 5a.m. Sunday.

Police were dispatched originally to a collision on southbound 71 Highway, just before Bannister Road in Kansas City.  First responders observed a black Dodge Charger wrecked out and abandoned, according KCPD Officer Alayna Gonzalez.

Police ordered a City Tow for the vehicle, and while waiting for the tow truck, a Ford Fusion came from behind and struck the rear of the KCPD Ford Explorer.

This impact forced the Explorer forward, and into the rear of a second KCPD Ford Explorer. The second KCPD Explorer then traveled forward and struck the rear of the the abandoned Dodge Charger.   Two officers were suffering from minor injuries, according to Officer Gonzalez and the driver of the Ford was transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Impairment is under consideration for the cause of the crash, according to Gonzalez.
