Man dies after Family Dollar roof collapse in Kansas City

KANSAS CTY—One person died and several others were injured in a partial building collapse Sunday in Kansas City.

Just before 3p.m., Sunday, the Kansas City Fire Department responded to a reported building collapse in the 3700 block of of Broadway in Kansas City, according to Baattakion Chief Michael Hopkins.

First responders reported a partial collapse of the Family Dollar buildings parapet wall and façade. The collapse took the life of one individual and critically injured another. Two others were treated and released on the scene. The fatality was identified as a 68-year-old man and who was pronounced dead on the scene. One patient, a 50-year-old woman was transported in critical condition at a local hospital. Two others were evaluated on the scene but refused additional treatment and were released.

The Kansas City Police department will be conducting the investigation due to the fatality. Broadway was closed from 36th street to 38th street while Police conducted their investigation, and public works removed debris from the roadway.
