KANSAS CITY—Law enforcement authorities investigating a fatal crash in Kansas City have identified the driver as 40-year-old Richard T. Buford.

Just before 8a.m. Friday, a Jaguar S-type driven by Buford was northbound on Holmes at 133rd where it traveled around the lowered train warning arms, ignoring the warning lights and audible signals, according to KCPD Officer Alayna Gonzalez.

The Jaguar then attempted to cross a second train crossing. The front engine of the approaching train struck the car.

Buford pronounced deceased at the scene. The train crew, engineer and conductor, were not injured in the collision.  Buford was not wearing a seat belt, according to Gonzalez.

This is fatality #35 compared to #22 at this time last year, according to Gonzalez.
