
A Kansas City man who allegedly fired at a Kansas City Police Department officer last week faces multiple charges.
Dontayus J. Wiles,25, is charged with one count of 2nd Degree Assault – Special Victim and one count of Armed Criminal Action. The assault charge carries five to 15 years, and the Armed Criminal Action charge carries three to 15 years if convicted, according to the Jackson County Prosecutor's office.
According to court records, a uniformed Kansas City police officer was riding a marked KCPD motorcycle near East 27th Street and Jackson Avenue on June 25, when he was alerted to the sound of shots in the area. The officer turned and observed a male in a mask holding what appeared to be a firearm. The officer took cover, drew his weapon, and returned fire.
Wiles fled the scene carrying his weapon and was later taken into custody.
