SEDGWICK COUNTY— A Kanas man was sentenced Tuesday in Sedgwick County District Court for second-degree murder in connection with the death of his 3-week-old daughter.
According to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office, Zachariah Howard, 19, appeared before District Judge Jeffrey Goering, who sentenced him to 109 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections with 36 months post-release supervision.
The sentencing follows Howard’s no contest plea on May 21, to one count of second-degree murder, a severity level 2-person felony.
The case stemmed from an incident on September 18, 2025, in which Howard's 3-week-old daughter Mulani Howard died as a result of injuries sustained while in his care.
Howard must also register as a violent offender for 15-years, according to the KBI Offender Registry.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Shannon Wilson and Assistant District Attorney Moriah Plowden.

The charge stems from an incident that was reported on Sept. 18, 2025, in Wichita. The case was investigated by the Wichita Police Department.
