JOHNSON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities have recovered the remains of a man in the 11400 Block of W 167th, according to Overland Park Police Officer John Lacy.
On April 27, 2024 local park volunteers located a backpack near a walking trail while cleaning debris in the 11400 block of W.167th. The identification of a missing person reported out of Overland Park in May of 2023, and his contents were discovered inside the backpack.
Just after noon Monday, the Overland Park Police Department search team discovered human remains of an individual located in close proximity to the backpack.
This case is being investigated by the Johnson County Park Patrol, Johnson County Medical Examiners Office and the Overland Park Police Department.
The Police Department is working with the Johnson Medical Examiner’s Office to positively identify the remains prior to releasing the name.
