SEDGWICK COUNTY — Police have completed a criminal investigation into a use of force incident involving Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Deputy Brett Anderson, according to a media release from Wichita Police.
At the request of Sheriff Jeff Easter, the WPD Alert Team conducted the investigation following a supervisory review of body-worn camera footage by the Sheriff’s Office. The incident occurred on September 11, at a local hospital, where a handcuffed man was struck several times by Deputy Anderson during an encounter.
WPD investigators presented the case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office, which has charged Deputy Anderson with one count of misdemeanor battery.
On Tuesday, Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office formally filed one count of Misdemeanor Battery against charge against Brett Anderson in connection with the incident.
Deputy Anderson, a six-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, was immediately placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal case.
