RENO COUNTY —Authorities are investigating the cause of a rural house fire in Reno County.

Just before 1p.m. Sunday, crews were sent to a single-story house fire at 6820 North Tobacco Road, according to a media release from the Hutchinson Fire Department. Crews found heavy smoke and fire showing from the roof of the home.

Firefighters searched, but found no one home, and looked for extension of fire to the attic. Because of the rural setting, fire crews had to call in partners to bring extra water. Several dogs were inside the residence and two of three dogs found died.

The Hutchinson Fire Marshal is still searching for a cause.
