SUMNER COUNTY —A discarded lithium battery is being blamed for a trash truck fire in Sumner County.
According to a social media report from Mulvane Fire and Rescue, a city trash truck driver smelled something burning and stopped and called 911.

On arrival fire crews observed a small amount of smoke coming from the truck. One Firefighter found a small computer with a Lithium Battery that appeared to be in Thermal Runaway.
Firefighters were able to pull the battery out of the truck and flooded the truck with water to cool off the trash.
"Never throw computer devices in the trash or anything with batteries." This was Mulvane Fire and Rescue's second Lithium battery incident in the last month.
