Police: Car struck apartment building in southwest Kansas

FINNEY COUNTY —"That’s one way to make an entrance, just maybe not the best way, Garden City Police wrote on social media.  Officers were at the scene of a traffic incident involving a car colliding with the entryway of an apartment complex this morning.

At 8:30 a.m. May 12, police responded the Villa North Apartments, 605 Labrador Boulevard in Garden City. First responders ound a Saturn Vue up on the steps of the apartment complex.

Through the investigation, officers learned that the driver had arrived at the complex and was trying to park.

Instead, the driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake and drove up onto the steps of the east entryway of the complex and hit the structure. Aside from minor structural damage and the vehicle having to be towed, no injuries occurred from the crash.

"With multiple recent car-versus-building accidents, this is the third one in a week, please stay alert, ditch the distractions, and pay attention to your driving and surroundings - your attention can make all the difference in keeping roads, properties, and people safe."
