FINNEY COUNTY —A teen driver fled from an injury accident that caused a power outage for many residents in Garden City on Monday.

Shortly after 5 a.m., Monday, first responders were dispatched to report of the accident involving an SUV that struck a utility pole at the intersection of Mary and A Streets in Garden City.

First responders found a heavily damaged GMC Yukon and significant damage along the south side of the 100 block of W. Mary Street.  The utility pole had been displaced roughly 15 feet, leaving live wires across the area. A damaged school speed limit sign was also located nearby.

City Electric and Public Works crews responded to the scene to begin repairs and cleanup efforts. Many nearby residents experienced power outages, and electric crews worked throughout the day to make repairs and restore service as safely and quickly as possible.

Further investigation revealed the driver, a 19-year-old man, initially fled from the crash but was located shortly afterward and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.  Police have not released the name of the driver or possible charges as they continue to investigate.
