On Monday afternoon and overnight, members of the community left flowers, stuffed animals and other items at Police Sergeant Scott Heimann's patrol vehicle, which is parked in front of the Hays Police Department office on 12th Street in Hays.
Children have colored pictures among the many tribute items left as memorials.
Heimann was killed in the line of duty while responding to a barricaded subject incident on Sunday.
