Kansas woman dead, 4 hospitalized after 2-vehicle crash and fire

ELLSWORTH COUNTY—One person died in an accident just before 12:30p.m. Thursday in Ellsworth County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2007 Chevy Impala driven by Debra Jean Stovall, 72, Beverly, was westbound on K156 just east of the Barton County line. The car traveled left of center and struck an eastbound 2019 Ram 1500 driven by  Colton Thayne Madden, 21, Saint George. After impact the pickup overturned and was engulfed in flames.

Stovall was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Parson's Funera Home.

EMS transported Madden and a passenger in the pickup Easton David Kaylor, 19, Wichita, to Clara Barton Medical Center. EMS transported two other passengers in the pickup  Daniel Leonard Hammeke, 21, Great Bend and Caleb Andrew Harder, 19, Leawood to the Ellsworth County Medical Center. All five were properly restrained, according to the KHP.
