SEDGWICK COUNTY—A man will learn his fate Wednesday for a deadly home-invasion shooting on Christmas weekend
Matthew D. Morgan, 54, Wichita, is scheduled for a sentencing hearing before Judge Tyler Roush, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's office.
In May, Morgan entered an Aldord Plea to involuntary manslaughter, according to the district attorney's office. He did not admit guilt but that there was enough evidence to convict him.
Morgan was originally charged with second-degree murder, according to the District Attorney's office.
Just before 8:30 p.m. December 27, police responded to a home in the 100 block of North Ash in Wichita, according to a media release. When officers arrived, they found 52-year-old Markus Adkins and 67-year-old man inside the home with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a local hospital where Adkins was later pronounced deceased. The 67-year-old did not have a life-threatening injury.
Police arrested their neighbor Matthew D. Morgan who has remained jailed on a $1 million bond, according to online jail records. Police arrested Morgan's co-defendant 39-year-old Andre Bryant on January 15. On July 17, Bryant pleaded not guilty to second degree murder in the case. He will face a jury in November, according to the district attorney's office.
