MONTGOMERY COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect in connection with a bank robbery.

On Wednesday, Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the Independence Police Department along with Montgomery County authorities investigated a bank robbery that occurred at Equity Bank 112 E Myrtle Street in Independence, according to Sheriff Ron Wade.

While deputies were directing traffic,  one deputy observed the suspect and suspect vehicle drive slowly by him north bound on U.S. 169 toward Coffeyville. The deputy  then gave chase in his patrol unit.

The case went through residential streets in Coffeyville, then back onto North U.S. 169. The suspect lost control of his vehicle at County Road 3200 and U.S. 169. At that time the suspect later identified a Paul Duane Gordon, 35, Marshfield, Missouri, exited his vehicle and ran on foot across a field, where he was taken into custody by Montgomery County Deputies.

Deputies took Gordon into custody and transported him to the Montgomery Department of Corrections where he was booked on requested charges of Aggravated Bank Robbery, Flee and eluding and reckless driving, according to Wade.
