WASHINGTON —Israeli President Isaac Herzog sought to reassure Congress on Wednesday about the state of Israel's democracy and the strength of the U.S.-Israel relationship.
He said, "Allowing Iran to become a nuclear threshold state – whether by omission or by diplomatic commission – is unacceptable."
Following Herzog’s joint address to Congress, Senator Jerry Moran spoke on the U.S. Senate floor to remind colleagues of the growing threat posed by Iran to peace in the Middle East and beyond.
Herzog, whose post in Israel is largely symbolic, became the second Israeli president, after his father, Chaim Herzog, to address Congress. His speech officially marked modern Israel’s celebration of its 75th year.
