2 Kansas bicyclists hospitalized after struck by a pickup

RAWLINS COUNTY —A Kansas couple were injured in an accident just before 2:30p.m. Friday in Rawlins County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2015 Chevy Silverado driven by Philip Cole, 54, Granby, Montana, was eastbound on U.S. 36. approximately eight miles east of Kansas 161.  The pickup lost a front tire from a trailer and struck westbound bicycles ridden by 75-year-old Wayne Akers and 75-year-old Barbara Akers both of Marion.

EMS transported the Akers to the Rawlins County Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Cole was properly restrained and not injured, according to the KHP.
