MONTGOMERY COUNTY —Friends have established an online fundraiser for a family that lost four children in a fire in southeast Kansas. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Bane, Case, Renesema, Alahyla and the children's grandmother Johanna Landsaw-Davis all died in the fire, according to the GoFundMe account.
"Our family is at a loss trying to face something this devastating."
This fundraiser is also for Destiny, the mother of the children. Three children remain hospitalized.
"Along with this unimaginable loss, Destiny is facing hospital bills in the months ahead and the overwhelming reality of rebuilding her life after losing four children and her mother in the fire."
"Donations will help cover funeral expenses, hospital bills, and some of the urgent needs Destiny and the surviving family will face over the next several months."
Just before 6:30.a.m. Friday Independence Fire/EMS and Independence Police Department were dispatched to a house fire at 201 S. Earl Street, according to a media release.
Law Enforcement and Fire/EMS personnel removed multiple victims from the residence.
There were five confirmed deaths, according to the State Fire Marshal's office. Three other children and two adults are being treated for life-threatening injuries.
Four Special Agents from the State Fire Marshal's office responded to assist with an investigation. Authorities have not released details on what caused the fire.
