LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Following the conviction of Michael Hurley in the case connected with the accident that killed Trey Jones and critically injured Amy and Ava Jones of Nickerson, Kansas, Hurley received a sentence of 70 years in prison at a sentencing hearing on Friday, December 13.

The Jones family was in Louisville for an AAU basketball tournament Ava Jones was playing in.

Michael Hurley was on probation in Indiana for drug-related charges at the time of the crash, according to court documents detailing his criminal history.

He admitted to officers that he was doing drugs before the July 5, 2022 accident.

In October, Hurley was convicted of one count of murder, three counts of assault and one count of driving under the influence.

Ava Jones remains on scholarship at the University of Iowa, though she announced earlier this spring that she is no longer going to attempt to return to basketball.
