THOMAS COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities investigating the case of a 4-year-old Kentucky girl who has been missing for over a year have two suspects in custody, according to the Shelby County Sheriff.
Last week, extended family members contacted law enforcement in Shelby County with concerns that Serenity is in danger, according to the sheriff's office.
On Sunday, the Kansas Highway Patrol arrested 26-year-old Dakota Hill and 21-year-old Catherine McKinney, the girl's mother, according to the Shelby Co. Sheriffs office.
The couple are being held in Thomas County on requested charges of Custodial Interference. Authorities are working to transport them from Kansas to Kentucky.
The Kentucky Attorney General's Special Victims Unit is partnering with the Shelby and Bullitt County Sheriff's Departments, Kentucky State Police, and the U.S. Secret Service to investigate the case.
