
SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office has closed its investigation into the death of Ian Alexander Shelton after the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office declined to file criminal charges, according to sheriff's office spokesman Branden Stitt.
Detectives presented the case findings to the district attorney on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. After reviewing the evidence, prosecutors declined to pursue charges against any individual connected to the investigation.

Detectives previously identified the remains recovered from Lake Afton on Jan. 10 as those of Shelton, 30, of Wichita, who had been reported missing in the early morning hours of Dec. 3, 2025.
