KANSAS CITY, Kan. — An Ambassador from NASA will join eclipse-viewers at Legends Outlets to view the rare solar eclipse.

A total solar eclipse, or the “Great North American Eclipse,” will trace a narrow path of totality from Texas to Maine. While Kansas City is not in the path of totality - a 100% eclipse - the city will still get to witness a partial eclipse - 89% - which is still a rare and special experience.

Eclipse glasses will be provided for attendees’ safety. Due to limited quantities, glasses will be given on a first-come, first-served basis. NASA’s live feed will also be put on the big screen to provide live views of the eclipse from several locations in its path.

It is important to know that it is never safe to look directly at the sun without specialized eye protection designed for solar viewing. Click HERE to review solar eclipse safety guidelines.

This will be the last total solar eclipse North America will see until 2044. A solar eclipse happens when the sun, moon and Earth are aligned.

ECLIPSE SCHEDULE:

  1. Begins at 12:37 PM
  2. Peaks at 1:54 PM
  3. Ends at 3:11 PM

Cloudy skies may impact visibility.
