Kansas sex offender jailed on new allegations

ATCHISON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a registered Kansas sex offender on new allegations.

On Tuesday, police arrested 53-year-old David W. Chapman of Lancaster on a District Court warrant for violation of a protective order and District and Municipal Court warrants failure to appear in court, according to Police Chief Mike Wilson.

Chapman has previous convictions for aggravated criminal sodomy involving a child under the age of 14, perjury and trafficking contraband into a correctional facility, according to the Kansas Department of Corrections. He has been a registered offender since 2013.

In November, police arrested Chapman for alleged failure to appear. In January and  April of 2022, he was in custody for alleged bond violations, according to online jail records.
