UPDATE: Kansas inmate who walked away from work release apprehended

WICHITA, Kan. – Kevin Vester, a minimum-custody resident of the Wichita Work Release Facility (WWRF) has been apprehended.

Vester was taken into custody Friday night, October 3, 2025, by Wichita Police Department.

Vester was placed on escape status after not returning to the facility earlier in the afternoon.

WICHITA, Kan. – Kansas inmate Kevin Vester was placed on escape status at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Friday,  after not returning to the facility from his work release job this evening, according to a statement from the  Department of Corrections.

Vester, a 55 year old African American male, is currently at large. This walkaway does not impact the security or operations of Wichita Work Release Facility.

Vester is described as five-feet, nine-inches tall, and weighs 170 pounds with a slim build. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing black pants, a royal blue shirt with white writing on the front, black shoes, and a black cap with a white image and a blue bill. He is known to wear a black do-rag under his cap.

Vester was convicted in Sedgwick County of seven months of incarceration for criminal threat and 31 months of incarceration for criminal firearm discharge.
