
KANSAS CITY—Law enforcement are investigating an officer-involved shooting in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.
Just before 6p.m. Tuesday, the Kansas City police department helicopter was following a vehicle which fled from law enforcement in Kansas and Missouri, according to a media release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol. With information provided by the helicopter, KCPD officers on the ground contacted the suspect vehicle in a parking lot in 1600 block of Jefferson Street just west of the downtown loop of Interstate 35 and Interstate 670.
Officers exited their vehicle and began giving the driver commands. The driver drove his vehicle in the direction of the officers and struck the patrol car. One officer fired his duty weapon at the driver striking him. As the suspect vehicle stopped, the driver was taken into custody and later transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is in charge of the shooting investigation.
