Kansas man hospitalized after train strikes tractor

DOUGLAS COUNTY—One person was injured in an accident Monday afternoon in Douglas County.

Just after 12:30 p.m., deputies were notified a train stopped on the tracks in the 1100 block of N 1900 Road north of Lawrence after a collision with a tractor, according to Douglas County Sheriff's Dept. spokesperson George Diepenbrock.

Investigators determined a 28-year-old Lecompton man was operating the tractor and mowing in the area of the tracks. The tractor was moving through the railroad crossing and was struck by a BNSF train.

EMS transported the tractor driver to a Topeka area hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening.

No other injuries were reported, and BNSF railroad officials were on the scene preparing the train, which was not damaged, to continue on is route.
