JEFFERSON COUNTY—A Kansas man jailed for an alleged violent attack on his father is facing additional charges.
According to Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Herrig, 59-year-old Michael J. West died Monday evening from injuries in a weekend attack.
Just after 8:30a.m. September 9, deputies responded to 6956 Shawnee Lane, Lake Ridge Estates in Ozawkie, according to a media release. The victim reported that he had been hit by a blunt object several times.
First responders found West with life-threatening injuries. EMS transported him to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka where he died.
Investigators later found the suspect identified as 30-year-old Michael T. West, the victim's son, in Leavenworth.
Deputies arrested and booked him into the Jefferson County Jail on requested charges of attempted murder in the first degree. He his being held without bond, according to online jail records.
Sheriff Herrg, the murder weapon was not a golf club as some have speculated.
