Crews rescue victim trapped in the Kansas river during storm

SHAWNEE COUNTY—One person was injured and rescued after an accident during the severe weather Wednesday in Topeka.

Just before 11:30 p.m., crews from the Topeka Fire Department (TFD) to a report of an injured person in the Kansas River near 1115 NE Poplar Street, according to spokesperson Rosie Nichols.

The Topeka Fire Department Technical Rescue team, consisting of both a truck and engine company, was dispatched to assist along with two additional engine companies, one truck company and one battalion chief.

Firefighters found an individual who had been injured and trapped under a fallen tree during a severe thunderstorm. Crews rescued the injured person, who was then transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
