Kansas teen dies after crash with semi during u-turn

CHEROKEE COUNTY—A Kansas teen died in an accident just before 8a.m. Thursday in Cherokee County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol(KHP) reported a 2006 Acura TL driven by  Fletcher, Josiah Lee Fletcher*, 18, Pittsburg, was eastbound on Kansas 171 Highway  approximately 2.4 miles east of U.S.69

As the driver made a u-turn, a westbound 2016 Kenworth semi driven by Ryder James Schnackenberg, 21, Neosho, Missouri, struck the Acura.

Fletcher was pronounced dead at the scene and was transported to Derfelt Funeral Home. Schnackenberg was not injured. Both drivers were properly restrained, according to the KHP.

*Updated spelling of victims middle name at request of family member, name was initially spelled 'Le' as it appeared in the KHP crash log.
