CAMDEN COUNTY—A child drowned just after 6p.m. on Tuesday at Lake of the Ozarks.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 6-year-old Camdenton, Missouri boy, not wearing a life jacket, jumped voluntarily into the water at Lick Creek Cove onto a Lilly Pad at the 65.9 mark of the main channel.
He went below the surface and did not resurface. He was pronounced dead just before 8p.m. at Lake Regional Hospital.
The drowning was one of four in Missouri over the holiday weekend including a 22-year-old St. Joseph man who drowned at Smithville Lake on Independence Day. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Carlos Antonio walked off a ledge into the water and never resurfaced. He was not wearing a life jacket, according to the patrol, which reports the fatality happen near Little Platte Swim Beach.
