HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson High School, 810 E 13th Avenue in Hutchinson, was placed on lockdown Tuesday after police received a threat that investigators later determined was not credible.

Just after 11:30a.m., Hutchinson Police received a call about the threat, according to a media release. Officers and sheriff’s deputies responded to the school, setting up a perimeter while administrators initiated lockdown protocols.

As a precaution, Graber Elementary, 1600 N Cleveland Street and the Transitional Learning Center, 700, East 13th Avenue also went into secure mode and kept students indoors.

Police said a sweep of the high school found no credible threat, and the lockdown was lifted with classes resuming later in the day.

Investigators believe the incident was a case of swatting, where a false report is made to provoke a police response. No students were found to be involved.

“Hutchinson Police Department and Hutchinson Public Schools take all threats seriously and appreciate the cooperation during this incident,” the agencies said in a joint statement.
