WASHINGTON —Thanksgiving is about giving thanks for what we have and giving back to our communities, Vice President Kamala Harris wrote Thursday on her social media page.

"Our family was grateful to be back at DC Central Kitchen to volunteer for the holiday."

In addition, Harris wrote, "We are forever grateful for the sacrifice our service members and their families make to keep our nation safe and to defend our nation’s highest ideals. Doug and I were honored to spend time speaking with them this Thanksgiving."

The DC Central Kitchen is a nonprofit and social enterprise that combats hunger and poverty through job training and job creation, according to the organization's web sire. "The organization provides hands-on culinary job training for individuals facing high barriers to employment while creating living wage jobs and bringing nutritious, dignified food where it is most needed."
