Kansas woman, child die in construction zone crash

MARION COUNTY —Two people died in an accident just after 11a.m. Wednesday in Marion County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2011 Hyundia Elantra driven by Jessica R. Henson, 43, Wamego, was was eastbound on U.S. Highway 56 at 250th Street.

The driver failed to stop and rear-ended a 2017 Freightliner semi driven by Trevor L.  Stevens, 21, Emporia, who was stopped at a KDOT work zone waiting on the flagger.

Henson and a child passenger were pronounced dead at the scene and were transported to Yazel-Megli Funeral Home. The KHP released no additional details on the child. Juvenile records are protected data, according to the KHP.

Stevens was not injured. The KHP had incomplete seat belt usage information.
