KC rescue crews found body of missing woman in river

KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement are investigating the death of a woman on the river in Kansas City.

Just before 6:30p.m Saturday, the police requested the Kansas City Fire Department responded to the Missouri River Bond Bridge for a suspected jumper, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

KCFD's rescue division launched their drones along with the department's rescue boats.

At 8:12p.m., after searching the river for approximately an hour and a half a person was recovered from the river approximately a half mile from the Bond bridge.

KCFD cold water drowning protocols were initiated and the patient, identified as a woman approximately 40-year-old was transported to North Kansas City Hospital where she as pronounced deceased.

 On Saturday afternoon, the Kansas City Police Department reported 42-year-old Amanda Switzer was last spoken with at 3:30p.m. Saturday. She was believed to be without her vehicle or phone. She was known to be in the area of the Kit Bond Bridge in Kansas City. The family was worried for her well-being.  

On Sunday, KCPD Sgt. Phil DiMartino confirmed Switzer had been found and was dead.
