Sheriff: Kan. deputy found cocaine, firearm during traffic stop

JACKSON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a suspect on drug allegations after a traffic stop.

Just after 10:30p.m. Tuesday, a sheriff's deputy conducted a traffic stop on a 2010 Acura passenger vehicle for a traffic infraction near 142nd and U.S. Highway 75, according to sheriff Tim Morse.

The driver was identified as Randy Thanh Nguyen, 31, of Kansas City, Missouri.

Deputies arrested Nguyen and booked him into the Jackson County Jail on requested charges of possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal use of a firearm, transporting an open container, driving while suspended, no vehicle registration and no insurance. 

He remains in custody on a $15,000 bond, according to online jail records.
