Police capture Kan. knife attack suspect after 9-day search

DOUGLAS COUNTY—Law enforcement investigating a violent knife attack have captured a suspect.

On November 4, police were called to 3250 Michigan Street in Lawrence where a 56-year-old victim told police a 46-year-old man had slashed his arm with a knife. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, . Police asked the public for help locating 46-year-old Rashidi "Rocky" McClelland in connection with the incident.

Just before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, police received information that  McClelland was inside a house in the 3700 block of Westland Place, near 6th Street and Monterey Way, according to a media release.

Within minutes, officers were in the area and began watching the house. Officers were able to spot a person they believed to be McClelland moving around inside. At approximately 7:30p.m., officers moved in on the house, making their presence known, and used loudspeakers from the street to call McClelland out.

After attempting to exit multiple doors and windows, McClelland eventually surrendered peacefully to officers at 8:03 p.m. He was transported to the Douglas County Correctional Facility and booked on requested charges in connection with the stabbing.

The victim is expected to recover from his injuries, according to police.
