KANSAS CITY—Law enforcement investigating a woman's suspicious death this week in Kansas City determined the death was a homicide. Police now believe the death was a murder suicide.
Just after 7p.m. Tuesday, police were dispatched to check welfare call at a residence in the 9000 block of Blue Ridge in Kansas City, Missouri, according to KCPD Captain Jake Becchina.
First responders were directed inside a residence where they located a woman later identified as 67-year-old Shelli Perrey unresponsive and deceased. Her injuries were unknown. Officers preserved the scene and called for detectives due to the suspicious nature of the incident.
Overnight, detectives were notified by the medical examiner of a preliminary finding of homicide in this case.
Through investigation detectives were able to identify a subject of interest, a man with whom Perrey was in an ongoing relationship. Later in the day on April 2, Detectives were able to locate the subject's vehicle near Kansas City International Airport. The subject, later identified as 60-year-old Joel Thomas was located inside the vehicle, deceased by apparent suicide, according to Becchina.
