Kan. couple accused in deadly accidental shooting due in court

SUMNER COUNTY— A Kansas couple accused in the August shooting death of a 12-year-old girl at a Kansas home are scheduled for a virtual court appearance Thursday, according to the Sumner County District Court.

On Jan. 6, police arrested 42-year-old Jarod Bruey and 41- year-old  Sarah Bruey on requested charges of aggravated endangerment of a child and first-degree murder in commission of a felony, according to online Sumner County jail records. 

On August 6, 2021 Sumner County Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to report a shooting the 1500 Block of South Blackstone Road in Caldwell, according to Undersheriff Mike Westmoreland.

Deputies were told a 12-year-old girl accidentally shot her 12-year-old sister in the face.

After administering life saving measures for over forty minutes she was declared deceased, according to Westmoreland.
