
Kansas City—Three Firefighters were injured while fighting a fire at large house on Saturday in Kansas City, Missouri.
Just before 7p.m.,crews responded to report of the fire in a home in the 5200 block of Independence Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri, according to Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins.

On arrival crews reported heavy fire from a vacant three-story multi-family apartment. Interior operations were initiated using multiple handlines. Crews encountered heavy fire conditions on multiple floors, including the basement.
At 7:32 pm a mayday was called for a firefighter in distress. The firefighter was quickly removed by crews operating nearby. The Incident Commander made the decision to evacuate the structure and go defensive. The fire was brought under control at 8:00 pm. Searches of the structure came back all clear for civilians.
Two of the firefighters had minor injuries, and a third had significant injuries, but all are non-life threatening Two of the firefighters were transported to a local hospital. The third was treated at the scene, according to Hopkins.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
