Kan. man jailed after schools closed due to shots fired

MCPHERSON COUNTY— A Kansas man was booked into jail on charges related to the illegal discharge of a firearm after a police incident that cancelled school in USD 488 on Wednesday.

According to the McPherson County Sheriff's Office, the Inman Police Department and Sheriff's Office personnel, including the McPherson County SRT responded to an ongoing situation involving shots fired in the 300 block of South Maple Street in Inman, on Wednesday morning.

The situation was resolved by 10 a.m., but by then, the district had announced no classes for the day.

According to the McPherson County jail log, later on Wednesday, 34-year-old Benjamin Gerard Schwindt was booked on requested charges of criminal discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm while intoxicated, attempted aggravated criminal threat against LEO, aggravated criminal damage and aggravated child endangerment. 

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
