KBI: Two suspects accused in Kansas man's murder

CRAWFORD COUNTY– The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), the Pittsburg Police Department, and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office are conducting an investigation into the death of a man from Weir, Kansas, according to a media release from the KBI. Preliminary indications are the death is a result of homicide and two suspects are in custody.

Just after 2:30p.m. Friday, Pittsburg Police received a 911 call from Collin Pal Gebford, 43, reporting someone was shot. Police located the victim, David Duane Mays, 51, of Weir, Kan., in the roadway near 1023 N Main in Pittsburg. Mays suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest.

At approximately 3:00pm, the KBI Crime Scene Response Team and investigative was requested by the Crawford County Sheriff. During the course of the investigation, it was determined there was an altercation that resulted in gunfire.

Investigators identified another suspect who was questioned by police and released.

Police arrested Gebford on requested charges of attempted premeditated first degree murder and felony murder. Gebford is being held the Crawford Count Jail, according to the KBI.

Authorities also located and arrested Travis Blake Conness, 32, of Neosho, Mo. on requestged charges of attempted premeditated first degree murder and felony murder. Conness was arrested without incident and booked into the Crawford County Jail.

Travis Blake Conness, 32, of Neosho, Mo., is a suspect and wanted for questioning. Conness has not been located and is still at large. An autopsy on Mays will be performed Tuesday, according to the KBI.
