Cause of a KC apartment fire and a house fire under investigation

KANSAS CITY —Authorities are investigating the cause of an apartment fire and a later a house fire in Kansas City, Missouri.

Just after 6:30p.m. Saturday, crews responded to a reported apartment fire in the area of 18th Street and Brooklyn Avenue, according to Battalion Chief Riley Nolan. 

On arrival, crews reported heavy fire and smoke from a two-story structure off of 18th Street and Euclid. An offensive fire attack was ordered, and interior operations were initiated using multiple handlines. Two separate apartments were involved in the fire, which was brought "under control" by companies on scene at 7:02 p.m. Searches of the structure came back all clear. There were no injuries reported.

Just before 8p.m. Saturday, crews responded to a reported fire in the 5900 block of Bellefontaine Avenue, according to Nolan.

Crews reported smoke and fire showing from a 1-story home on arrival. Offensive operations were ordered, and two handlines were advanced into the structure to extinguish the fire.

 The fire was brought under control at 8:09 p.m. Companies on scene continued with salvage and overhaul operations while extinguishing hot spots. There were no injuries reported.
