
SHAWNEE COUNTY —One person died in a fire Thursday morning in Topeka.
Just after 2a.m. Thursday, fire crews were dispatched to a fire at in a detached garage behind a home at 1435 NW Jackson Street in Topeka, according to city spokesperson Gretchen Spiker.
Crews found heavy fire and smoke coming from the garage and while performing an offensive fire attack, found an adult victim inside the garage who was deceased.
The fire was quickly contained and no other structures were damaged.
The garage was converted into a make shift residence and the victim was living in the space. Authorities have not released the victim's name or possible cause of the fire.
