Suspect wounded in KC area officer-involved shooting

JACKSON COUNTY, Mo. —Law enforcement are investigating an officer involved shooting involving a member of the Buckner, Missouri police department, according to a statement from the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control.

Just before 1:30a.m. Sunday, an officer with the Buckner police department reported they were in pursuit of a vehicle westbound on U.S. 24 near Hoover Road. As the suspect vehicle approached Blue Mills Road, it crossed over to the eastbound lanes and briefly  traveled in the wrong direction.  The suspect vehicle traveled in reverse and then accelerated forward striking the officer's patrol vehicle. The officer fired his duty weapon at the suspect vehicle.

The driver, whose has not been released, was taken into custody and was found to have a gunshot wound. EMS transported the driver to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury. The officer was not injured.  Buckner is located in Jackson County just east of Kansas City, Missouri.
