Increased police presence in Kan. school districts due to online threats

JOHNSON COUNTY —Law enforcement are investigating a surge of reports of a vague school shooting threat circulating online about the USD 230 Spring Hill school district, according to a statement from the Johnson County Sheriff's office.

With the help of the school resources officers and sheriff's deputies, the sheriff's office have determine the threats are unsubstantiated.

To be proactive , the sheriff's office has increased their presence at schools in Spring Hill and adjacent districts out of an abundance of caution. Spring Hill is a city in Johnson and Miami counties.

The sheriff's office is working with the school district administrators to ensure and maintain a safe and secure environment for students and staff.

The sheriff's office encourage the public, " if you see something, say something."  The sheriff's office also thanked the public for alerting them to to these social media posts circulating online. "We take every report seriously."
